Unlimited Recreational Activities. Comox Valley is one of the few places in the world where you can golf in the morning, ski in the afternoon and go canoeing in the evening. Mount Washington Alpine Resort is a year-round destination for hiking, mountain biking, downhill and cross-country skiing and snowboarding. This is also one of the best places in the world for fishing as well as scuba diving due to the crystal-clear waters and rich, abundant sea life in the area. On the mountain, numerous festivals, retreats and events of interest can keep you busy during the summer months. Mount Washington edges onto Strathcona Provincial Park, a huge wilderness area of over 250,000 hectares in central Vancouver Island, with many trails suitable for day and overnight hiking trips. Rent a kayak at Comox Valley Kayaks and cruise the Courtenay River Estuary to view waterfowl or paddle to Tree Island bird sanctuary. Walk along the Courtenay Riverway and have lunch at the Old House Restaurant. View seals and eagles while walking the trails in Seal Bay Nature Park. Culture The Filberg Lodge & Park hosts the Filberg Festival, a 4-day event featuring entertainment, food, and world-renowned artisans offering their work for sale, during the last weekend of July each summer. Comox Nautical Days are held each year on the BC Day Long Weekend - the first weekend in August. Highlights include a parade, a festival in Marina Park, and even a Build, Bail & Sail contest. Comox Valley Has it All. Internet Cafes, pubs and restaurants abound. Offerings vary from sushi to gyros, Thai, and Mexican. Movie Theatres, art galleries, library, public wharves, spas, and specialty shopping abound. The recently-finished Comox Valley International Airport has direct flights to and from Vancouver, Calgary, and Campbell River.
